About

Sapiens Verbum Daily is the news desk of Sapiens Verbum, an editorial project dedicated to explaining the great paintings of art history: their symbolism, technique, historical context and human message.

Every day we pick one story from the world of art and heritage and explain why it matters: a museum exhibition, a restoration or rediscovery, an auction record, a theft or restitution, a threatened monument, a new book. Each story is linked to the history behind it and, whenever possible, to a masterpiece discussed on Sapiens Verbum.

Our weekly sections

  • Wednesday — Auctions & the Art Market
  • Thursday — Heists, Law & Restitution
  • Friday — Places & Heritage
  • Saturday — Books & Ideas
  • Sunday — On This Day in Art & Weekly Roundup

How we work

Every story is based on at least two reliable, named sources, which are linked at the end of each post. We add context and analysis; we do not republish press releases or other outlets' articles. Images are public domain works from museum open-access collections or from the Sapiens Verbum archive. Read our sources and corrections policy.
